    Essence is in maintaining interest & passion for longer period of time. Learning is a slow process considering the vastness of security domain. Keep learning whatever fascinates you and one day you yourself would realize whether you are prepared or not.

    Assembly programming is another beautiful beast. It's definitely needed if you want to get into exploitation/shellcoding/reverse-engineering etc. But at the same time there are many other verticals in security which you could master without getting into it.

    I suggest penetration testing magazine. There are a lot of practical knowledge there. It isn't so cheap, but when you buy a subscription it is not that bad.
